Facility Reservations

A. Dormitory Facility

1. Students - two rooms, 8 beds each (one room for female students, one for male). $7 per night per person.

2. Faculty - two rooms, one for two people and one for four (two bunk beds), plus commons room with TV, microwave and refrigerator. $25 per night for one room, $37 per night for two rooms.

B. Conference/ Classrooms

• one seminar room (max. capacity 75)
• two conference rooms (seat 12-15)
• teaching laboratory

C. A/V and Computing

Available Equipment:

• H.323 Polycom videoconferencing unit with 42" wide format plasma monitor for video and voice conferencing (can connect up to eight H.323 sites at a time)
  
• PC for remote application sharing (Net Meeting)
• Video monitor with VCR and DVD players
  
• LCD projector with laptop (PC)

Please Note: If you are bringing your own computer and wish to connect into our network, please contact Kar ahead of time. Networked general-use computers and printers are available in our computer room.

D. Trucks & Vans

1. Available vehicles:

• ¾ ton full bed trucks: truck # 62, 36, 732, 830, 835 (has extended cab)
• faculty truck: truck #63 (only faculty may reserve before the intended day(s) of use)
• suburban: #743
• van: #846, 880

2. In order to use a truck, you must:

• be a UNC employee or student and have a NC driver's license.
• be checked out by Claude Lewis
• reserve the truck for the specific days you need it by signing your name on the truck reservation sheet or by contacting Laura White
• sign it out on the truck sign-out sheet on the day you intend to use the truck

E. Boats

Available boats:

Trailered flat boats (inshore only):

• 17' Jones Brother Bateau
• 22' Jones Brother Bateau
• 23' Carolina Skimmer

Trailered v-hull boats (inshore-deeper water and nearshore):

• 17' Southwester (inshore only)
• 21' Parker
• 21' Privateer

Please note that trailed boats are only available for use by UNC-CH researchers and classes. Trailered boat use will be charged at a rate of $31.50 per hour. Fuel usage and required personnel overtime for these boats will be charged at cost.

In order to use an IMS boat you must:

• have current CPR and First Aid certification.
• take the U.S. Coast Guard Boating and Seaman Skills class
• be checked out with Joe Purifoy

F. Diving

The UNC-CH Institute of Marine Sciences is an organizational member of the American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS) and abides by their standards. For information concerning the IMS dive program contact Glenn Safrit.
