Harvey E Seim, Associate Professor
Phone: (919) 962-2083
Fax: (919) 962-1254
Office:

329 Chapman Hall, CB#3300

Professional Background:

Dr. Seim's research focuses on understanding the processes that control the circulation and water mass structure of estuaries and the coastal ocean. The principal tools used in his research are observational studies and computer-based modeling. Hias general areas of interest include ocean observing systems, turbulence and mixing processes, internal hydraulics, subtidal and tidal dynamics, and high-frequency acoustics. Current Projects:

Development of a coastal ocean observing system to provide real-time information on oceanographic and atmospheric conditions off the Georgia coast (SABSOON) and along the length of the South Atlantic Bight.

Development of data assimilative models of the coastal ocean near SABSOON to provide ocean nowcasts.

Observational studies of estuarine circulation in Georgia and North Carolina focusing on the salt and momentum Process-oriented modeling of benthic frontogenesis in the Straits of Florida

His work is funded by NSF, NOPP, ONR, and UNC.
